Let’s face it, job searching isn’t the most interesting thing you can do. I for one prefer travelling or going to see a movie, but hopefully these 15 little known facts about job search will make the task significantly more fun. 1. In 2012 there were 3.6 million job openings, but 80% of those available jobs were never advertised. They were either given to employees within the company or those with connections to the company.

2. Your chance of getting hired increases by 18% if someone within the organization refers you and by 9% if someone outside the organization refers you.

3. 46% of men and 39% of women find their jobs through networking. The higher your salary is the more effective networking becomes.

4. On average more than 100 people will apply for any given job, and on average 20% of those applicants are asked for an interview.

5. Did you know that resume screening software programs eliminate up to 50% of applications? That means there’s a 50% chance no human will even look at your application.
